Sapphire is the main substrate in this growth process, accounting for 94% of the LED substrate market. From the perspective of regional distribution, the sapphire market for LED substrate is mainly concentrated in Asia, Europe, Japan, and the United States, accounting for 30%, 20%, 24%, and 17% of the world market share respectively, accounting for 91% of the world market share in total.
The market demand for sapphire materials is growing
Led by lighting, the global LED industry will achieve an average annual growth of about 25% - 30%, while the upstream sapphire industry will maintain a corresponding growth of about 30%. Considering that there is room for continuous improvement in the startup rate and capacity utilization of Chinese chip enterprises, non-LED applications account for about 20% of the demand for sapphire, while non-LED applications are mainly reflected in the demand for consumer electronics. In 2015, the demand for sapphire for consumer electronics was about 129 million meters.
With the rapid development of the LED industry, the acceleration of consumer electronic sapphire application and the further increase of the demand for national defense industrial materials and civil windows, the market demand for sapphire materials will still maintain a rapid growth trend.
