Fused Silica / Fused Quartz Optical Elements
Because fused quartz has very good heat resistance, it is generally used in natural environment with high temperature.

Common fused quartz materials are divided into JGS1, JGS2 and JGS3 for different applications.
JGS1 is generally used for ultraviolet ray, thus it can be seen that the stock band and fluorescence spectrum stock band, and the raw materials are free of bubbles and residues. It can be used to replace Suprasil 1&2 and Corning 7980.
JGS2 is commonly used as a mirror substrate, and the material contains many small bubbles. It can be used to replace Homeosil 1, 2&3.
JGS3 has good transmittance in infrared, but it contains many bubbles, which limits its wide use. It can be used to replace Suprasil 300.
At this stage, two different methods can be used to produce fused quartz. One method uses high-purity calcite or other minerals containing silica as raw materials and uses various pyrogens to melt them. This kind of raw material is called optical glass. Another method is called the formation of molten quartz, which uses the vapor silicon-containing compound (for example, SiCl4) as the raw material and burns it in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to form silicon dioxide.

The main advantages are that raw materials are reasonably priced, easy to purchase, relatively easy to process, and have high resistance to chemicals and temperature (up to 1000 ° C).
