Er Yb Glass is Erbium and Ytterbium co-doped phosphate glass, Er3 + / Yb3 + Co doped phosphate glass – as LD pumped 1540nm eye safety radiation source, it can emit 1540nm eye safety laser radiation directly used in laser rangefinder and telecommunications 1540um, Er3 + / Yb3 + Co doped phosphate glass laser, as a wavelength laser safe for human eyes, has attracted much attention because of its compactness and low cost (such as laser generation and signal amplification), because the wavelength of 1540nm is just located in the position of eye safety and optical fiber communication window. 1540 nm laser has been used in rangefinder, radar and target recognition. Er3 + / Yb3 + Co doped phosphate glass and passive Q-switched cobalt spinel were used to obtain 1540 nm pulsed solid-state laser.

The Er3 + emission transition occurs in the wavelength range corresponding to 4I13 / 2 → 4i15 / 2. However, Er3 + absorption itself is too weak to pump directly, so energy transfer is required. The most effective is the Yb3 + ion absorbed by 2F7 / 2 → 2F5 / 2 transition, then the energy is transferred to 4i11 / 2 Er3 + level and the fast non radiative transition to Er3 + 4I13 / 2 level, so as to emit the expected fluorescence. Er, Yb: glass laser with radiation output of 1540 nm does not need to add other components.
